Hibiscus - The Naturally Cooling Herb

Hibiscus is known to be a "refrigerant". Refrigerant herbs are known for cooling the body, especially in hotter temperatures. Hibiscus tea was the go-to drink for ancient Egyptians when tasked to travel through the hot desert climates. Today many use the same customs of drinking hibiscus (hot or iced) as a refreshing drink in order to withstand the beaming hot sun.

Hibiscus cools the body's temperature by hydrating and gently cleansing the digestive system. It acts as a diuretic that allows for a smooth flow by dislodging the blockages and congestion that excess heat will create. Hibiscus also helps clear out mucus where heat and inflammation could often build up.

Benefits: Antimicrobial, antioxidants, astringent, anti-inflammatory, refrigerant, diuretic, immune boosting

Safety: Hibiscus is considered an emmenagogue (a substance that stimulates or increases menstrual flow), so avoid large doses during pregnancy.

Doses: Limit consumption to 2-3 cups a day
